The Rogue River dories
Note that these plans appear in my book, DRIFT BOATS AND RIVER DORIES

All plans are designed for free-form frame construction, and therefore lend themselves to stitch and glue construction as well. The plans are as they appear in the book, and are laid out on 18" x 24" vellum and are 1" to the foot in scale.

The Classic Rogue River dory, built to the lines of Bob Pritchett's boat, the last boat he built before his death in 1989. In this boat is his 40+ years of cumulative experience with this dory. This boat has excellent carrying capacity and it will hold the current like none other. The hipped transom accommodates a small motor, and the excessive flare enhances the boat's stability in heavy white water. Stats (to the inside of the panels): Overall length is 16'8-1/2" and is 18'5/8" around the sheer. Width at the chine amidships is 47", and breadth at the sheer is 76-1/2". For details about this boat, see pages 263 - 271.

The Rogue River Driver, the early workhorse of the Rogue. A heavily timbered dory, the plans for this boat have been modified to accommodate today's materials. Lines and construction detail for this boat, with appropriate permissions, were taken from the Zane Grey boat at Winkle Bar on the Rogue. The river driver is one of 7 boats Zane Grey had built in the mnid-1920s for travel to, and use around, his cabin in the remote canyon. There are plans, though pending, to restore this boat. Stats (to the inside of the panels): Overall length, 22'4"; length around the sheer, 23-1/2'; width at the chine amidships, 41-1/2", and breadth at sheer amidships, 62-1/4". For details about this boat, see pages 255 - 262.

The Briggs Dory, the boat commissioned by Martin Litton specifically for the heavy white water of the Colorado. Named for Rogue River guide and builder, Jerry Briggs of Grants Pass, Oregon, most, about half of the dories that ply the Colorado today are Briggs boats. They are treasured, maintained and meticulously cared for. Several boatmen have adapted the Briggs dory to a double-ender. I have received several requests for such plans and I should have a set available by March 2010. Stats (to the inside panels): Overall length, 17' 2-3/8"; length around the sheer, 18'9"; width at the chine amidships, 46", and breadth at the sheer amidships, 76-3/4". For dteails about this boat, see pages 272 - 280.
